Big Data AWS Architect

Location: Los Angeles, USA

To collaborate closely with our customers and partners and build solutions using Big Data and Analytics, focusing on Real Time and Batch-based Big Data processing, Business Intelligence, HPC, and Machine Learning.

Responsibilities

• Design Customer Solutions ­ Collaborate with AWS field sales, pre­sales, training and support teams to help partners and customers learn and use AWS services such as Elastic Map Reduce (EMR), Redshift, Kinesis, Amazon Machine Learning, AWS Lambda, Data Pipeline, S3, DynamoDB, and the Relational Database Service (RDS)
• Devise Strategy ­ Engage with Solution Architects, Account Managers Professional Services and Partners to define an Analytics Engagement strategy for AWS operational territories and key accounts.
• Thought Leadership – Provide global thought leadership on Analytics solutions that benefit customers through the use of AWS Services. This takes the form of contribution to external publications such as the AWS Big Data Blog, Whitepapers, and Reference architectures, as well as internal training of Solution Architects, Professional Services Consultants, Technical Account Managers, and AWS Trainers
• Serve as a key member of the business development and account management team in helping to ensure customer success in building and migrating applications, software, and services on the AWS platform
• Assist solution providers with the definition and implementation of technical and business strategies
• Capture and share best-practice knowledge amongst the worldwide AWS solution architect community
• Understand AWS market segments and industry verticals
• Understand and exploit the use of internal business support systems.

Basic Qualifications

• The candidate will possess both technical and customer-facing skills that will allow them to be the technical support “face” of Amazon within a solution providers’ ecosystem/environment as well as directly to end customers. He or she will be able to facilitate relationships with senior personnel, as well as the technical background that enables him or her to easily interact and give guidance to software developers, IT pros, and system architects in public sector markets. The ideal candidate will also have a demonstrated ability to think strategically about business, product, and technical challenges.
• The right person will be highly technical and analytical, possess significant experience of software development and/or IT and networking implementation/consulting experience.
• Strong verbal and written communications skills are a must, as well as the ability to work effectively across internal and external organizations and virtual teams.
• Experience working within the software development or Internet industries is highly desired.
• Understanding of application, server, and network security is highly desired.
• Executive speaking and presentation skills – Formal presentations, whiteboarding, large and small group presentations.
• Technical – Web services development/deployment experience, IT systems and network engineering experience, security and compliance experience, etc.
• Operational – Website/web services as well as traditional IT networking, operations, management, and security experience.
• Economic and business – RFP/Acquisition support; market analysis; cost-benefit analysis, etc.
• Ability to think strategically about business, product, and technical challenges in an enterprise environment. Understanding of Agile methodologies, and the ability to apply these practices to Analytics projects.
• Highly technical and analytical, possessing 10 or more years of analytics platform implementation or operations experience. Deep understanding of database and analytics technologies in the industry including MPP, Relational, and NOSQL databases.
• Knowledge of the underlying infrastructure requirements such as Networking, Storage, and Hardware Optimisation.
• Implementation and tuning experience in the Apache Hadoop Ecosystem, including tools such as Hadoop Streaming, Spark, Pig and Hive.
• Implementation and tuning experience of Data Warehousing platforms, including knowledge of Data Warehouse Schema Design, Query Tuning and Optimisation, and Data Migration and Integration. Experience of requirements for the analytics presentation layer including Dashboards, Reporting, and OLAP.
• BS level technical degree required; Computer Science or Math background preferred.
• Fluent Spanish and English speaker

Preferred Qualifications

• Hands on experience leading large-scale global data warehousing and analytics projects.
• Demonstrated industry leadership in the fields of Database and/or Data Warehousing, Data Sciences and Big Data processing. Experience with Statistics and Machine Learning.
• Hands-on experience as a database, data warehouse or big data developer.
• Track record of implementing AWS services in a variety of business environments such as large enterprises and start-ups. Experience working within the software development or Internet industries is highly desired.

Big Data Architect

To lead the next generation of data solutions targeting a variety of use cases across data engineering, data science, data governance, and visualization

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and deploy high-performance, custom applications at scale on Hadoop;
• Define and develop network infrastructure solutions to enable partners and clients to scale NoSQL and relational database architecture for growing demands and traffic;
• Define common business and development processes, platform and tools usage for data acquisition, storage, transformation, and analysis;
• Develop roadmaps and implementation strategy around data science initiatives including recommendation engines, predictive modeling, and machine learning;
• Work with all phases of SDL, including system analysis, design, coding, test automation framework, debugging and documentation

Qualifications

A Big Data architect’s skill-set include but are not limited to…

• Experience in Architecture, design and development of Big Data solutions – dealing with considerable data size (TB/PB) and with high complexity
• Have a thorough understanding of Big Data space and be able to build competency
• Should have hands on experience with batch processing/real-time systems using various Open Source technologies like Hadoop, NoSQL DBs, Spark, Kafka, etc.
• Hands on experience with programming languages JAVA, Scala, Python
• Hands on experience with scripting on Unix/Linux
• Experience with cloud hosted applications – AWS
• Ability to communicate clearly with both business and technical resources
• Capable of working as an individual contributor and within team too
• Excellent ability to grasp business processes and translate them into what is needed to be done technically to implement them
• Good communication, problem solving & interpersonal skills

Data Engineer

To work closely with data architects and data scientists and provide clean, usable data to whomever may require it.

Responsibilities

• Build data expertise and own data quality for the pipelines built
• Architect, build, and launch new data models that provide intuitive analytics to the team
• Design, build, and launch extremely efficient and reliable data pipelines to move data (both large and small amounts) to our ridiculously large Data Warehouse
• Design and develop new systems and tools to enable team members to consume and understand data faster
• Use your expert coding skills across a number of languages from PHP, Python, and JavaScript
• Work across multiple teams in high visibility roles and own solutions end-to-end

Qualifications

• Proficiency in Python, Java, SQL (BigQuery, Oracle, Hive, etc)
• Experience with dimensional data modeling and schema design in Data Warehouses
• Experience in custom or structured (ie. Informatica/Talend/Pentaho) ETL design, implementation, and maintenance. Experience working with either a Map Reduce or a MPP system on any size/scale to write well-abstracted, reusable code components
• Excellent communication skills, including the ability to identify and communicate data-driven insights
• Experience in building web applications and knowledge of web technologies (HTML/CSS/JS)
• M.S. degree in Computer Science or related field
• 2+ years of professional experience
